Infinitizer
of SiC Value

Y-SIC is ushering in a new era of the possible by revolutionizing silicon carbide production with a continuous, low-energy process built for industrial-scale.

What is possible at the end
is decided at its start.

Silicon carbide is the material the power electronics of the coming years will be built from. What that becomes depends on the quality of the source material: crystal growth, wafer quality and device yield. All carry the properties of the powder upstream. This is where the chain begins, and this is where it has advanced the least. At its core, SiC has always been made the same way: batch by batch. Y-SIC set out to rebuild that first step.

Batch Process

Acheson Process

Advantages

  • Reliable and widely used production method
  • Versatility
  • Established technology

Disadvantages

  • High energy consumption
  • Requires high quality inputs
  • Quality inconsistencies

Applications

Abrasives (sandpaper), refractories and ceramics, power electronics (after additional sophisticated cleaning process steps)

Chemical Vapor Deposition

Advantages

  • High purity SiC films and coatings
  • Excellent control
  • Versatility

Disadvantages

  • High energy consumption
  • High equipment cost
  • Hazardous byproducts
  • Process complexity

Applications

Coatings, optical components
and semiconductors

Direct Synthesis

Batch reaction of silicon and high purity carbon powder: Si + C → SiC

Advantages

  • High purity possible with clean feedstocks
  • No CO by-product in the Ideal Si+ C reaction
  • Flexible batch composition

Disadvantages

  • High-purity feedstock costs
  • Risk of residual silicon or carbon
  • Mixing and thermal control are critical

Applications

SiC powders for advanced ceramics and, after qualification, feedstock for single-crystal growth.
3C-SiC phase purity requires process control.

Continuous Process // Novel and Superior

Y-SIC Process

Advantages

  • 80% less energy consumption
  • Continuous manufacturing process
  • High purity SiC material
  • Wide range of particle sizes
  • Tailored material properties – including custom doping, sintering, 3C/6H
  • Scalable for high-volume production
  • Made in Germany

Disadvantages

  • Requires precise control

Applications

Power electronics, Interposer, AR-glasses

Let’s start working together

Samples

We supply material in the quantity you need for incoming inspection, with a full certificate of analysis.

Qualification

We support your approval process and provide the evidence your quality assurance requires.

Joint development

If your application needs a specification that does not exist yet, we develop it with you: grain size, distribution, chemical composition.

What we can prove today

Map of Germany with our sites in Berlin, Osnabrück and Dillingen/Saar

3 sites, > 50 employees, one vision

In Berlin, we advance the material and the process. In Osnabrück, we produce today. In Dillingen/Saar, our plant for industrial-scale production is taking shape.

Short routes, a European supply chain, and people in your time zone. For customers reducing dependencies in their material supply, that matters.

Certification in progress

We are currently undergoing various certifications, including ISO 9001. Until then, a certificate of analysis documents the quality of every delivery.

Patented Process

More than 20 patents, granted and pending, protect our production process. They show that the novel route was developed in-house.
